About PIPR
Pickleball Individual Player Rating
What is PIPR?
PIPR is a skill-based rating system designed specifically for pickleball players. Unlike traditional game-score ratings that blend your performance with your doubles partner's, PIPR (pronounced 'piper') measures what you can do on the court.
Whether you're looking to find balanced games, track your improvement, or prove your skill level at a new club, your PIPR card gives you a portable, verifiable rating that travels with you, whether playing doubles or singles, rec, club, challenge matches or tournaments.
The Problem with Game-Score Ratings
In doubles pickleball, your win/loss record depends heavily on who you're partnered with. A skilled 4.0 player paired with a weaker partner will lose games and see their rating drop — even if they played well individually.
Conversely, an average player who consistently partners with strong players may have an inflated rating that doesn't reflect their actual abilities. This makes it hard to find fair, competitive games.
How PIPR Works
PIPR rates individual skills: serves, returns, dinks, third shots, resets, attacking, defense, transition play, and court awareness. Your rating reflects what you bring to any partnership.
Two paths to your rating:
Self-Reported (Provisional)
Take our skill assessment quiz and claim your rating. Your card shows "Provisional" status — honest and transparent.
Coach Verified
Get evaluated by a certified coach for an official rating with a "Verified" badge and detailed skill breakdown.
Benefits for Players
Standardized Skill Verification
Your rating is documented and verifiable via QR code. When you show up to open play or want to find partners, others can quickly confirm your skill level.
Easier Match-Finding
Having a recognized rating makes it simpler to find appropriate opponents and partners, whether for competitive singles, doubles, or recreational games.
Credibility at New Venues
When you visit courts where no one knows you, scanning your card instantly shows your rating rather than relying on self-reporting or guesswork.
Precise Rating Granularity
PIPR allows ratings to the hundredth (like 3.75 or 4.25), giving a more accurate picture of your skill level than typical half-step increments.
Portable & Always With You
Your digital card lives on your phone. Whether you're traveling, visiting family, or trying a new club, your verified rating travels with you.
For Coaches
PIPR coaches earn $35 for each player verification ($50 fee, $15 platform fee). Conduct in-person skill evaluations, help players understand their true level, and build your coaching reputation.
